We, the team ‘Mahabloggers’ from Rotaract district 3131, Pune, India, welcome you aboard on this virtual tour, ‘ महाराष्ट्राची चंदेरी दुनिया’ around our glorious and magnificient state of Maharastra with 36 spectacular and eminent districts, each rich with its distinct culture, heritage, and history, yet rooted to the illustrous spirit of valour of this state, which is the जन्मभूमी of innumerous brave and historically significant personalities. So, fasten your seat belts as we take you around the resplendent districts of Maharshtra. Our first destination for this tour is Gondia.

Introduction of Gondia:-

Gondia is a city and municipal council in the Indian state of Maharashtra which serves as the administrative headquarters of the eponymous administrative district. Gondia is also known as Rice City due to the excess of rice mills in the region. Gondia is very close to the state of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and is considered the gateway to Maharashtra from central and eastern India. The district is divided into four sub-divisions, each of which is further divided into talukas. These are Gondia sub-division: Gondia, Deori, Amgaon, and Salekasa talukas,Tirora sub-division: Tirora and Goregaon talukas,Arjuni Morgaon sub-division: Arjuni Morgaon and Sadak Arjuni talukas. The district also includes a total of 556 gram panchayats (village councils), 8 panchayat samitis, and 954 revenue village.


Culture and Tradition of Gondia:-

Culture and Religion is the main attraction of this district as the population is immense and diverse different forms of culture are seen. The tribals in the district have their own culture. They are used to perform the worships of their God “Persa Pen”. They do the dance “Rela” on auspicious occurrences and when fresh crops developed. Rela dance is a popular dance among the tribals. The other dance is the “Dhol” dance. Holi, Dashehara, and Deewali are the foremost festivals of tribals. The tribal community lodges in the dense forest of the District. The other community peoples are having their own Festivals such as Ganpati, Dashera, Diwali, and Holi. In some area of the district, peoples are interested in playing a role in “Natak” or arrange the cultural programs “Natak” after Diwali or on Festival days.

Tourism in Gondia:-

  • Hazar Fall: Hazara Falls, in Salekasa tehsil, is a significant tourist attraction during the rainy season. It is located 1 km from Darekasa Railway Station and visitors can cherish the sight of natural vegetation. The place is also ideal for camping. It is a spectacular view covered with Dense forest and hills. It falls between Gondia and Dongargarh railway stations en-route Mumbai-Howrah mainline.


  • Kachragadh: Kachargadh is situated at a distance of 55 km from Gondia and is a famous tourist destination because of the 25000-year-old natural caves situated here. Here archaeologists found stone weapons were used by people of that era. It is situated in the dense forest and paradise for trekkers, a worshiping place for local tribes.
  • Navegaon National Park: The park is situated in the southern part of the Gondia district. It is located in the eastern part of Maharashtra state and constitutes an area of 133.78 sq. Km. It has got immense potentials from the biodiversity conservation point of view. The national park has various types of vegetation ranging from dry mixed forest to moist forest.
  • Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary: The Nagzira wildlife sanctuary is a miraculously preserved “Green Oasis” in the easternmost part of the Maharashtra State and has great importance from a bio-diversity conservation point of view.

Food of Gondia:-

As Gondia is a renowned district of Maharashtra all typical dishes made up of wheat, rice, jowar, peanuts, a lot of spices, herbs, coconut oil, etc are easily available. One can easy witness the amazing cuisine by visiting any of the restaurants.
