So, fasten your seat belts as we take you around the resplendent districts of Maharashtra. Our next  destination for this tour is Osmanabad.

Introduction of Osmanabad:-

Osmanabad District is an administrative district in the Marathwada region in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The district headquarter is located at Osmanabad.

The District of Osmanabad derives its name from the last ruler of Hyderabad, the 7th Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan, of which the region was a part till 1947. This region was earlier part of The Hyderabad State unto Independence. This primarily rural district holds an area of 7569 km² of which 241.4 km² is urban and has a population of 1,657,576 of which 16.96% were urban (as of 2011).


Culture and Tradition of Osmanabad:-

Ruled by several dynasties including Chalukyas, Bahamani, Rastrakutas, Adil Shahi, and the Bhonsle kings to which the revered Maratha warrior Shivaji belonged, Osmanabad is quite enriched in cultural heritage, being a melee of both Nizam and Hindu or Marathi culture is interwoven into one. Festivals of all kinds are celebrated by inhabitants in Osmanabad with a lot of fanfare, the likes of Ganesh Chaturthi, Makar Sankranti, Deepawali, and Dusshera as communities irrespective of all differences come together to enjoy.

The religious shrines in different districts of Osmanabad are visited by devotees throughout the year, for example, Tulja Bhavani Mandir in Tuljapur district on the occasion of Navratri. Several fairs are held in Osmanabad during festivals, like Ramling Fair, Saint Goroba Kaka fair, Bhairavnath fair at Sonari Paranda, Yermala fair in Kalamb district.

Osmanabad is also immensely famous for its folk dances; Gondhal, Lavni, Jogwa and many other dance forms. Also popular for its handicrafts like Mashru and Himroo artifacts, made into fabrics woven from silk and cotton. Bidriware is another handicraft form popular among the Mughals is famous among tourists and sold in varieties of ashtrays, jewelry, trinket boxes, vases and so is Narayanpeth silk sarees. Osmanabad is also renowned for its Warli paintings and famous for its design.

The cultural accumulation and mixing ensures and indicates the population mixing and being cosmopolitan with a modern and broad mindset in Osmanabad.


Tourism in Osmanabad:-

  • Shri Tuljabhavani Mandir: Tuljapur, the one amongst three and a half Shakti Peethas of the state, wherein resides the Mother Goddess Tulja Bhavani. She is also fondly respected as Aai (mother) Ambabai, Jagdamba, Tukai by her devotees who throng in millions to Tuljapur for her Darshan and for endeavoring her blessings. As a divine Mother, she protects her children from the immorality of evil desires, selfishness, jealousy, hatred, anger, and ego. At the same time, Tulja Bhavani symbolizes the power of the Supreme Being that maintains moral order and righteousness in the universe.


  • Ter (Tagar): 22 km from Osmanabad At the distance of tere center, ancient civilizations have grown clear even today. The ancient region of Terai, known for its regional trade, is known by the name of the prestigious national sant Gorobakka Kumbhar. The village is old in this village and its temple is on the banks of the River Titanas.
  • Paranda Fort: In 1599, the Mughals overpowered Nizam Shahi of Ahmednagar. Though Emperor Akbar appointed his officers to look after the kingdom of the Deccan, the Nizam Shah’s officers refused to receive orders from them. They had lost their independence. They declared Murtaza, the son of Shah Ali king, and made Paranda Fort, about 75 miles southeast of Ahmednagar capital. The position passed several times between them and the Adil Shahis and settled with him for two to three years and was captured by the Adil Shah in 1630. In 1657 it was again captured by the Moghuls and eventually came into the hands of the Nizams of Hyderabad.

Food of Osmanabad:-

Osmanabad is also famous for sweet Gulab Jamun made up of Khoa, Maida & Sugar. Osmanabadi Goat Mutton is also a very famous & tasty item. The boiled mutton with Rassa or locally called Sherva (boiled water blended with local spices such as turmeric, ginger, garlic, coriander, red chilly & black chilly, etc. ).
