We, the team ‘Mahabloggers’ from Rotaract district 3131, Pune, India, welcome you aboard on this virtual tour, ‘ महाराष्ट्राची चंदेरी दुनिया’ around our glorious and magnificent state of Maharastra with 36 spectacular and eminent districts, each rich with its distinct culture, heritage, and history, yet rooted to the illustrious spirit of valor of this state, which is the जन्मभूमी of innumerous brave and historically significant personalities. So, fasten your seat belts as we take you around the resplendent districts of Maharashtra. Our second destination for this tour is Amravati.
Introduction of Amravati:-
Amravati, formerly Oomrawutty is a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Amravati is the second largest city of Vidarbha region of Maharashtra after Nagpur and is the administrative headquarters of the Amravati district. It is also the headquarters of the Amravati division (also known as Varhad) which is one of the six divisions of the state. Among the historical landmarks in the city are the temples of Shree Ambadevi, Shri Krishna, Gadge Maharaj and Shri Venkateshwara Swamy. It is said that Amravati is named for its ancient Ambadevi temple.
Marathi is the official and the most spoken language in the district. The dialect spoken here is called Varhadi dialect. Deccani Urdu is also prominent among the Muslim community. Korku and Gondi languages are also spoken by a significant number of people.

Culture and tradition of Amravati:-
The ancient name of Amravati is “Audumbaravati”, in Prakrit, “Umravati”. Amravati has been ruled by the Yadavas, the Mauryans, the Mughals, the Chattrapati Shahu Maharaj, Ranoji Bhosale, the Nizam and finally the East India Company. The sahukars (bankers and merchants) of Amravati saved Amravati by presenting seven lakh rupees to the Pindharis when they attacked in 1805. Amravati housed the head office of ‘Savinay Awagya Andolan’ — The Civil Disobedience Movement. In 1897, the Indian National Congress assembled here. It was headed by Chettur Sankaran Nair.
The city is also famous for Hanuman Vyayam Prasarak Mandal, one of the largest sports complexes in India, which is famous for its facility for different kinds of sports.

Tourism in Amravati:-
Borgaon Dori is a well-known pilgrimage village near south-west from Paratwada, on the banks of Saapan river previously known as Wardha river, Maharashtra, India. The temple of Lord Shiva attracts about a million Hindu pilgrims during the major yātrā (pilgrimages) in Jan to Feb the comety of Priti Sangam situated at Borgaon Dori.

- Hanuman Vyayam Prasarak Mandal (HVPM) Institute — India’s biggest sport institute.
Food of Amravati:-
Some famous sweet dishes of the region are Sira, Puri, Basundi and Srikhand, which are mostly prepared with the heavy influence of milk. Puranpoli is a famous sweet dish which is made of wheat bread, stuffed with gram dal and jaggery. Cow and buffaloes are the primary sources of milk and are commonly used. A few other specialities are Gila -Bada and Sambhar Wadi dishes that you will get this in Amravati only. There are all varieties Samosa, Kachori, Aaloo Bonda with Rassa, Misal,Bhel, Mung Bhajiye. Shegao kachori near Ganganagar is also very famous.
