We, the team ‘Mahabloggers’ from Rotaract district 3131, Pune, India, welcome you aboard on this virtual tour, ‘ महाराष्ट्राची चंदेरी दुनिया’ around our glorious and magnificient state of Maharastra with 36 spectacular and eminent districts, each rich with its distinct culture, heritage, and history, yet rooted to the illustrous spirit of valour of this state, which is the जन्मभूमी of innumerous brave and historically significant personalities. So, fasten your seat belts as we take you around the resplendent districts of Maharshtra. Our first destination for this tour is Jalgaon.

Introduction of Jalgaon:-

Jalgaon district is located in the northern part of Maharashtra. The Jalgaon city serves as the administrative headquarters for the district. The district shares its borders with Madhya Pradesh in the north, Buldhana to east, Dhule towards west, Aurangabad to the south, Jalna towards southeast and Nashik to its southwest.

The Jalgaon city is known as the “Banana City”, as two-third of Maharashtra’s bananas are produced here.

Most of the people speak the Marathi language. Some other languages spoken here are Bhili, Sindhi, Gujrati and Konkani.Some other languages include Ahirani, Khandeshi, Payla Bareli and Rathwa Bareli.


Culture and tradition of Jalgaon:-

The culture of Jalgaon is very much rich and is influenced by its location, the different deity’s and also by the different rulers of this region. Jalgaon has a diverse culture with different languages and a number of festivals being celebrated there.

The festivals and fairs celebrated here are a part of the district’s rich heritage. Jalgaon has two main fairs held in the city every year which attracts many devotees not just from the district but also from different parts of the state, which are Shri Rama Rathotsava fair and The Navratri Mahalaxmi fair. Almost all major festivals of India are celebrated with full enthusiasm in Jalgaon. Some of the most celebrated ones are Ganesh Chaturthi,Holi, Diwali.

Tourism in Jalgaon:-

  • Shree Kshetra Padmalaya- The temple has two swayambhu ganesh idols namely Aamod and Pramod. The pond used to be full of lotus flowers hence the temple is known as Padmalaya. This place is also called as Bhimkund, because it is believed that to quench his thirst after a fight, Bhima hit his elbow on the ground to form a pond of water.

  • Unapdev Hot Water Fountain- Unapdev is located in the foothills of the Satpura hill range.The temple has a hot water fountain where, hot water is seen to have been flowing throughout the year through the mouth of the godly cow. Other hot water fountains in the area of the Satpura hills are the Sunapdev and Nijhardev.All the three places are seen to have found mention in the epic of Ramayana and has touched the lord Rama during his fourteen years expulsion from Ayodhya.It is said that the hot water has the power to cure the skin ailments. This holy destination is well connected by roads. The nearest railway station to reach is the Jalgaon railway station.

  • Swinging Towers of Farkande- Swinging Towers located 16-km from Erandol on the bank of Utawadi River are a great example of old construction techniques. Both the towers are 15m long and when one of them is waved, the other towers also start waving automatically. It is believed that the construction is 250 years old.

  • Saint Muktabai Temple — Saint Muktabai temple is region’s ancient temple with Goddess Muktabai being honoured at deity of region. There are two temples of this deity namely Mehun temple and new Muktabai Temple located in MuktaiNagar city.Muktai or Muktabai was a very popular saint of the Varkari tradition.

  • Manudevi Temple — Situated in the lush green ranges of Satpura mountains, on the banks of River Tapi, is the Shree Manudevi Temple. It is the supreme family deity of many of the families who reside in the vicinity. The temple is accessible via road by taking an exit of the Yawal Chopda State Highway. The trustees and the board members take pride in informing the pilgrims that of the 10 kms road, three quarters of it is well paved two lane motorable road. The next one and half kilometer is a paved road made of gravel. The final one and half kilometer provides an interesting trek to the temple. The temple is at a height of 500 meters and the final trek is through lush green surroundings and this walk through nature

  • Forts- There are also various forts which one can plan to visit. These are Parola fort, Amalner fort and Bahadarpur fort.

Food of Jalgaon:-

The restaurants in Jalgaon serve a variety of traditional Marathi and modern dishes that are not only delicious, but also give you an introduction to the rich culture of this place. Some of the famous food items are Khandeshi style Buttermilk, Vangi Bharit, Khandeshi Khichdi, Eggplant Bhaji, Tomato Bhaji, Jalebi, Imarti, and Chakli.
