We, the team ‘Mahabloggers’ from Rotaract district 3131, Pune, India, welcome you aboard on this virtual tour, ‘ महाराष्ट्राची चंदेरी दुनिया’ around our glorious and magnificient state of Maharastra with 36 spectacular and eminent districts, each rich with its distinct culture, heritage, and history, yet rooted to the illustrous spirit of valour of this state, which is the जन्मभूमी of innumerous brave and historically significant personalities. So, fasten your seat belts as we take you around the resplendent districts of Maharshtra. Our first destination for this tour is Latur.

Introduction of Latur:-

Latur district is a renowned district in the historic Maharashtra state of India. Latur city is the district headquarters and is the 16th largest city in the state of Maharashtra. The district is primarily agricultural. The urban population holds 25.47% of the total population.

Latur is divided into ten talukas & ten Panchayat Samitis. These are Latur, Udgir, Ahmedpur, Ausa, Nilanga, Renapur, Chakur, Deoni, Shirur Anantpal, and Jalkot. Latur city is the administrative base of the district. There are around 945 villages & 786 Gram Panchayats in the district.

There are six Vidhan Sabha constituencies in Latur District. These are Latur City, Latur Rural, Udgir, Ausa, Nilanga, and Ahmedpur.


Culture and tradition of Latur:-

Shri Siddeshwar’s fair at Latur is held every year. Several people attend the Gangaram Maharaj Samadhi every Ekadashi at Hattibet in Udgir tehsil.

In January 2011, the first-ever ‘Latur Festival’ was organized on 10, 11, and 12 January beneath the leadership of Mr. Amit Deshmukh. The grand success of this event has now ensured a permanent spot on the cultural calendar. Now, this is an annual fixture. The event is organized by the Latur Club.

Tourism in Latur:-

  • Udgir fort: The fort of Udgir is surrounded by a 40 feet (12 m) deep trench as the fort is constructed at the ground level. In the fort are several palaces, Durbar halls and the Samadhi of Udaygir Maharaj which is 60 feet (18 m) beneath the normal ground level. The fort has some unique inscriptions written in Arabic and Persian.
  • Wadwal Nagnath Bet (Hill): This hill is based on a very rare species of Ayurvedic bushes and plants. It is 16.5 kilometers (16,500 m) away from Chakur and 39 kilometers (39,000 m) from Latur city. The hill is 650 feet (200 m) in height from the ground and is 3 kilometers (3,000 m) from the Wadwal-Nagnath village.
  • Sai Nandanwan: Another amazing tourist spot near Chakur. Scattered into approximately 400 acres (1.6 km2), it has mango plantations, a water park, and an amusement park. A temple of Satya Sai Baba is established in the middle of the park.
  • Ausa Fort: This fort is located in a depression surrounded by high ground on all sides, so that from its highest point one can have a scene of approaching armies, even at a great distance, while the main parts of the fort remain hidden. Almost square in shape, the fort is surrounded by a moat or khandak (ditch), nearly 36.58 meters (120.0 ft) in width, now nearly dry.
  • Kharosa Caves: This is a small village situated 45 kilometers (45,000 m) from Latur city. The sculptures in the cave include Buddha, Narsimha, Shiv Parvati, Kartikeya, and Ravan among many others. According to historians, these caves were built in the 6th century during the Gupta period. The temple “Renuka Devi Mandir”, and mosque “Pirpasha Darga” are also situated around the caves.

Food of Latur:-

As Latur is a prestigious district of Maharashtra all typical dishes made up of wheat, rice, jowar, peanuts, a lot of spices, herbs, coconut oil, etc are easily available.One can visit the following restaurants to experience the complete cuisine. Gayatri Veg Culture, Hotel Kanhaiyya, Wada II Pure veg are some great recommendations.
