Introduction of Nadurbar:-

Nandurbar is an administrative district in the northwest edge of Maharashtra state in India. On 1 July 1998 Dhule was bifurcated as two separate districts now known as Dhule and Nandurbar. The district headquarters are placed in Nandurbar city.

The district was part of the Khandesh district with Dhule and Jalgaon till July 1998. According to some, khandesh means the country of Lord Krishna. The ancient name of this region is Rasika when Nandurbar was also called Nandanagri following the name of its king Nandaraja.

There is one Lok Sabha constituency in the district which is Nandurbar (ST) reserved for ST. There are four Maharashtra Assembly seats namely Akkalkuwa (ST), Shahada (ST), Nandurbar (ST), Nawapur (ST).

Culture and Tradition of Nandurbar:-

The region is linked to various rulers of the time including Chalukyas, Vartakas, and Yadavas.

Prior to the Mughal era, Khandesh formed the southern boundary of the Tughlaq Empire.

Due to its tricky location at the ends of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, Nandurbar kept shifting into different power regimes. After the Mughal Empire’s decline, the Marathas took control of Khandesh, and finally, on 3 June 1818, the Maratha Peshwa capitulated Khandesh to the British rule.

Tourism in Nandurbar:-

  • Asthamba: Asthamba is the spiritual place of the Nandurbar region and is established in Akrani Tehsil. Asthamba fair held here is estimated to be one of the most prominent fairs of tribals from south Gujarat and North West Maharashtra. During the Diwali festival, the fair is held for 10 to 15 days. Asthamba is considered one of the mythological characters from the Hindu epic Mahabharata. According to tribals, he is known by the name of Ashvasthama, a male character and was the son of Guru Dronacharya.
  • Prakasha: A place is located in Shahada taluka of Nandurbar district on the banks of the Tapi River. This is what we are known as South Kashi. The importance of the answer is as much as the importance of South-Kashi.
  • Toranmal: A hill station, Yashwant Lake, Sita-Khaani valley, very green natural scenery, mountains, valleys, waterfalls, and numerous earth-massed pylons. Toranmal is situated in the Satpuda ranges. The place looks unforgettably fascinating during the monsoon. Toranmal reminds tourists of Mahabaleshwar even during the scorching summer heat of Khandesh. The bountiful beauty of nature and the innumerable lotuses blooming in the Lotus Lake give a feeling to the tourists that they have certainly entered into a ‘different’ world.

Food of Nandurbar:-

Marathi or Maharashtrian cuisine is said to cover a whole range of delicacies ranging from spicy to mild dishes. The staple diet here is lentils, fruit, vegetables, bajri, jowar, rice and wheat. Cashews and peanuts are served often along with vegetables. Rice and flatbread are the main staple dishes here, with the bread mainly being wheat-based like the trigonal traditional Ghadichi Poli. From bajra, jowar and millet, bhakri, a type of bread is prepared. Dry chutney called jhunka is popular here. It was previously taken by the rural class, but of late has become quite fashionable with the urban classes also.
