So, fasten your seat belts as we take you around the resplendent districts of Maharshtra. Our next destination for this tour is Nashik.
Introduction of Nashik:-
Nashik is an ancient district in Maharashtra, located in the northern part of Maharashtra.The Nashik city is the largest city under the district. Nashik is considered to be a holy place due to its connections with the Hindu Epic, Ramayana. Located along the Godavari river, Nashik is considered to be the place where Lakshmana cut the nose(Nashika) of Surpanakha, thus the city got its name. But the city got its present name under the reign of Peshwas in 1818.Nashik is also one of the 4 prominent places, where the Maha Kumbh mela is organised every 12 years.
The city is also famous for its grapes. The city is also a home to half of the country’s vineyards and wineries. Thus the city is regarded as the Wine Capital Of India.
Marathi is the main language spoken in the district. Other languages spoken include Hindi, Urdu, Khandeshi, Bhili, Gujrati and Konkani. Marathi is the official and main language spoken. Various dialects are spoken in smaller parts of northern district that include Ahirani and Bhili. With religious places like Nashik, Trimbakeshwar, ancient Indian language Sanskrit is spoken and widely understood.

Culture and Tradition of Nashik:-
The culture of the city of Nashik, in northwestern Maharashtra, is centred around Hindu customs and festivals, and the Jain Statue of Ahimsa. The most significant heritage of the place is the Kumbh Mela. Other than that various forts and various other tourist spots are also a part of Nashik’s rich heritage.
Nashik has a rich and glorious history.The place has a great mythological connection.Nashik holds a significant position in the Hindu epic Ramayana. It is also one of the holy places, where the Maha Kumbh mela is organised. According to Hindu legends Nashik had various names in 4 different yugas. The place was known as Padmanagar in Satya yuga, Trikantak in Treta yuga, Janasthana in Dvapara yuga and finally Nashik in the Kali Yuga.

Tourism in Nashik:-
- There are numerous places to visit in Nashik. Starting with a mythological place, Panchavati is an important mythological spot, due to its connections with Ramayana
- . Trimbakeshwar is another important religious spot, which is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India.The place is also a home to various beautiful temples such as the Jain temple, Kalaram temple, Muktidham temple, Someshwar temple, Sundarnarayan temple, Saibaba temple, Balaji Devstan and Swami Samarth Ashram.
- One of the most beautiful nature sightings, is the Dudhsagar falls. The fall has one of the most attractive panoramic views. Some other waterfalls one can visit are Dugarwadi Waterfalls, Dabhosa waterfalls and Vihigaon (Ashoka) waterfall.
- If someone wants to have a trekking experience then he/she must visit the Mulher hills, Salher fort and Dhodap hills.
- Nashik is also a home to various beautiful hill ranges such as the Saptashrungi, Pandu Leni (Trirashmi Caves), Sita Gufa, Anjaneri hills. These hill ranges are also mythologically important.
- Artillery museum and Coin museum are two museums one can visit to view various historical objects. Artillery museum consists of various weapons from the 2nd world war and a part of it is also used for military training. The coin museum holds a collection of coins used during various reigns.
- The district is also surrounded by various forts. Those are Achala Fort, Ahivant Fort, Alang Fort,Ankai Fort, Bhaskargad, Bitangad, Chandwad fort, Chauler Fort, Dermal Fort,Dhunda fort, Galna, Harihar fort, Hatgadh Fort, Indrai fort, Javlya fort, Kanchana Fort,Kankrala, Koldher Fort, Kulang Fort, Mandangad Fort, Malegaon fort,Markanda Fort,Mohandar fort, Mora fort, Mulher, Patta Fort,Pisola fort, Rajdher fort, Ramshej, Ravlya Fort, Salota fort, Tankai fort, Tringalwadi, Trymbakgad.
- Now, if you want to taste some good wine, then you must visit the Sula Vineyard. They are the biggest producer of wine in India. The place also consists of a resort where one can stay and taste the various flavours of wine.
Food in Nashik:-
The most popular food of Nashik is Misal Pav, a street food. It is a spicy dish, which consists of Misal (a curry made of sprouts and chickpeas, topped with crispy rice flakes) and is served with 2 pav(a fluffy bread bun). The dish also has 2 sub dishes, Vada rassa and Shev Missal, in which misal is replaced with vada and shev respectively.The average rate of Misal Pav is Rs. 25, in any stall.
