We, the team ‘Mahabloggers’ from Rotaract district 3131, Pune, India, welcome you aboard on this virtual tour, ‘ महाराष्ट्राची चंदेरी दुनिया’ around our glorious and magnificent state of Maharastra with 36 spectacular and eminent districts, each rich with its distinct culture, heritage, and history, yet rooted to the illustrious spirit of valor of this state, which is the जन्मभूमी of innumerous brave and historically significant personalities. So, fasten your seat belts as we take you around the resplendent districts of Maharashtra. Our next destination for this tour is Palghar.
Introduction of Palghar:-
Palghar original district is comprised of around 112km of linear sea rays. District average rainfall is about 2458mm. According to geographical structure, the district generally falls into three departments. The first section of linear Sahyadri mountain is known by the name ‘jangalapatti’. These mainly encompass of Jawhar,mokhada, Vikramgad talukas. The second section is known by ‘bandarpatti’.These include Vasai,Palghar,Dahanu talukas. The third section is known as the plain land. These include Wada taluka.
Culture and Traditions of Palghar:-
Until 1 August 2014, the talukas now comprising Palghar District formed a part of Thane District. After a struggle and demand for almost 25 years, for bifurcation, the creation of the new district was approved by the Cabinet of Maharashtra on 13 June 2014 and the new district of Palghar came into existence on 1 August.
Tourism of Palghar:-
Arnala Fort is built on a small island of the port town of Arnala, located around 8 miles north of Vasai, Maharashtra, India.Being an island fort, it is also called Jaldurg or Janjire-Arnala. The Portuguese, who built the present fort, called the island Ilha das vacas.

Asheri Fort / Asheri is a fort located 102 km from Mumbai and 88 km from Thane. It is in Palghar district, of Maharashtra. This fort is an important fort in Palghar district. The fort is located on the hills near Mendhavan Khind on Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway. The base village Khodkona is a very small tribal village. The Fort restoration is done by the local villagers.

Bhavangad Fort is a fort located 3 km from village Kelve, in Palghar district, of Maharashtra. This fort is in very dilapidated condition. The outer walls, steps, parapets, bastions etc. were built without using limestone at many places. This fort was built to capture the Fort Bassein by Maratha Army.

Kelve Fort / Kelwa Fort is a fort located 12.5 km from Palghar, in Palghar district, of Maharashtra. This fort is admist the Casuarina plantation on the Kelwa Beach. This fort is in ruined condition. The outer walls, steps, parapets, bastions etc. in solid masonry are in excellent order and worth seeing.The half of the fort is below the sandy beach level. The fort is located in the Mangelwada of Kelve village.There is a small Kelve pankot on the mouth of the Kelve creek.
Takmak Fort is located in Palghar taluka of Palghar district in Maharashtra. The fort is situated on a north-south hill spur ending in a steep rise. The fort is in a ruined state with few remains of fortification.This is a fort located 60 km (37 mi) from the city of Mumbai. For some time this fort was in the possession of the Portuguese and it was captured by Maratha army after the siege of Vasai in 1739. It was captured by British Army in 1817

Food in Palghar:-
Palghar is most famous for its production of “chikoo” (Sapodilla). They even have a special festival dedicated to this fruit, called the Chikoo festival.
