We, the team ‘Mahabloggers’ from Rotaract district 3131, Pune, India, welcome you aboard on this virtual tour, ‘ महाराष्ट्राची चंदेरी दुनिया’ around our glorious and magnificent state of Maharastra with 36 spectacular and eminent districts, each rich with its distinct culture, heritage, and history, yet rooted to the illustrious spirit of valor of this state, which is the जन्मभूमी of innumerous brave and historically significant personalities. So, fasten your seat belts as we take you around the resplendent districts of Maharashtra. Our next destination for this tour is Satara.

Introduction of Satara:-

The city of Satara was established in the 16th century and was the seat of the Chatrapati of Maratha Samrajya, Shahu I, and is located near the confluence of the river Krishna and its tributary, the Venna. The city used to be the capital of the Maratha Kingdom, over 14 Lakhs square kilometers. The city has a pleasant climate all year round due to it being surrounded by the mountains so the summers are not too hot and the winters are not too cold, and rainfall is moderate too.

In 1663 Shivajiraje conquered Parali and Satara fort and requested his Guru Shri Samartha Ramdas Swami to stay on this parali fort which was later named “Sajjangad” and is just 12 km away from the Satara city. There is situated on a slope of Satara a fort is popularly known as Ajinkyatara and after the death of Shivaji Maharaj, Aurangzeb conquered Satara fort later won by Parshuram Pratinidhi in 1706. In 1708 Shahumaraj crowned on this fort.


Culture and traditions of Satara:-

The art and cultural activities in Satara will give you an insight into the city’s history, traditions, and artwork. While visiting the cultural attractions in Satara would prove to be informative, attending its artsy events will leave you entertained.


Tourism in Satara:-

  1. Mahableshwar: It is one of the most popular hill stations in the country and the state and is situated about 4500 ft. above sea level on the Sahyadri spurs. The pretty gardens, extensive greenery, and serene environment bring in a lot of tourists and the best season to visit is from March to June.

2. Pratapgad: 21 km away from Mahabaleshwar on Mahad Road stands Pratapgad, a fort built by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, that has a major historical significance as the Major fight with Afzal Khan took place here on 10th November 1659. The fort stands 3543 feet above sea level and also has a temple of Tulja Bhavani built-in.


3. Bhambavli Vajrai Waterfall: This is the tallest waterfall in India, and the height of it is 1840 ft. which is 560 meters. The water comes from the river Urmodi and It falls straight from a cliff having 3 steps. Since it is located a mere 5 km away from well known Kas flower valley and Bhambavli Flower Valley, the lush green mountains and the flowers in the nearby flower valley please your senses and relaxes the senses.
